Mystery Plant #90007 |
Added: 2011-01-01This plant was found at a couple of locations on the Bruce Peninsula: Gauley Bay and Oliphant Fen area. Early July 2010.
Suggestions JH: This is one of the yellow-flowered flax species, although I am not sure which one. It could be Linum medium medium, Linum striatum, or Linum virginianum. Another species, Linum sulcatum, has more narrow leaves than the mystery plant in your photos. All of these species are native to Ontario I believe, although perhaps not as far north as the Bruce peninsula. There are some non-native Linum species with yellow flowers that are sometimes cultivated, but this mystery plant is probably not one of them.
CK: A flax - hard to tell, but probably Linum medium (two varieties) - that's what I mainly find near lake fronts, but I don't notice the petal thing.
