Suspected Trollius laxus, Spreading Globeflower.
Found near Milton May 14/06.

Flower, plant and leaves.

They are all growing in the water, near the edge of a stream.

IDENTIFIED as SWAMP BUTTERCUP

Overview of the plants. They resemble large Buttercup plants.
A single plant.

There's only one flower per stalk.

The flowers look like large Buttercups or regular-sized Marsh Marigolds.
