Need help with mystery woodland flower!

Postby Trillium » Wed Apr 19, 2006 7:53 pm

This pink flower (pics below in my Webshots album) has popped up in our woodland garden for the second year in a row (Zone 6- Windsor, ON), in mid-April, and is an ephemeral. I can't find it in any book on native plants in Canada I've looked at, so was wondering if it's an actually a weed. We didn't buy the plant, it just sprouted, so we don't know if a bird deposited it or it came as a seed with our Adder's Tongue (you can see one leaf of the Adder's Tongue in the lower right corner). Any help is appreciated- we're sure stumped!

I'm no expert AT ALL but at first glance it looks a lot like a first year "campanula" of some sort but the leaves are not campanula-ish unless it is some kind of cultivated variety that is not very common.

I can't find it in any of my Ontario wildflower books either so it really makes me wonder if it is a cultivated garden variety.

OR... I could be totally wrong   :D
